Winter Is Here

December 23, 2018

Winter has come and we’re close to wrapping up 2018. Even though I definitely think I could have spend a lot more time here on NERDSHOCK HQ, I’m already pretty happy I managed to relaunch the website earlier this year. With 2019 just around the corner, it’s time to reflect on the old year and look forward to what a whole new year can bring!

[please note] This post mainly focuses on personal stuff that happened during the year πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸ’»πŸ’•

Last year I really got stuck trying to do all the things I wanted to do, because I was trying to do them all at the same time. After my mum was diagnosed with lung cancer at the end of 2017, I realised I had to build a strong foundation before I could truly move forward. I also had to shift focus by working on completing one goal at a time.

At the start of 2018 I mainly focused on getting the hang of my new job in a senior position. During Spring the boyfriend and I became more serious about sharing an apartment together. We found a great apartment in the Summer and moved in together, but when Summer moved on I really found myself in a serious work rut.

When Fall came around the company I work for forced my co-workers and I to adjust our work schedules. A bunch of fellow seniors left the office which definitely made me enjoy work a whole lot less. It took a lot of energy to adjust to a new schedule and find purpose at work. I decided to not return to university to keep my schedule a whole lot less busy. Fortunately I was able to get through that pretty stressful period by enjoying Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on PlayStation 4 after work.

Even though I haven’t been able to do everything I wanted to do this year, I’m so happy I’ve moved in together with the boyfriend. Overcoming the work rut at the office actually helped me develop new insights and set up new goals for the new year.

During 2018 I haven’t spend much time working on the NERDSHOCK Project. As you might expect, showing NERDSHOCK HQ a whole lotta love is one of my main goals for the new year. I definitely want to stay active on Twitter, share posts on Instagram and upload fresh video’s on YouTube, but the main focus will be making the HQ a place you want to check out and come back to.

I mentioned this in a post on Instagram before, but I’ve been thinking a lot about εˆεΏƒ (shoshin) or ‘the beginner’s mind’. In 2019 I really want to learn new things, take up an interesting online course, read more books & look into formal learning. I’m not sure if that means I will return to university or do something totally different. Hahaha yes, that also means you can finally see more Spark posts here on HQ ⚑️

During the first half of 2019 I will mainly focus on NERDSHOCK HQ and also spend some time on little passion projects I’ve been neglecting. I’m really eager to turn it up a notch and hustle hard. I’ve worked for 5 years at my current work place, so during the second half of the new year I plan on applying for a different job. I hope to find a job that has a better work life balance and enables me to dedicate more time to the NERDSHOCK Project and study.

In Short

I think 2018 was a pretty good year and I’m looking forward to getting even more stuff done in 2019. I will keep track of my progress here on HQ so I can keep myself accountable for all the goals I’ve set.

For now I wish you all Happy Holidays
