Earlier this month Metallica announced their collaboration with Fortnite. During the Fourth Season of Fortnite Festival the band is at the center of all Fortnite experiences with Metallica-themed gameplay coming to Fortnite Festival, Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite, and Rocket Racing.

The collab also brings an all-new music experience inside of Fortnite,ย Metallica: Fuel. Fire. Fury.ย which could only be experienced on June 22 and June 23.

I’m not a fan of player-versus-player games, so I never looked into playing Fortnite. But since I do consider myself a gamer and a Metallica fan, the announcement made me curious. When I learned about the new game mode Battle Stage via the epic trailer and the fact Fortnite isn’t just about Battle Royale, I was determined to check it out!

Festival Season 4 Premium Reward Track Completed

Knowing I would probably only play Fortnite to check out the collab with Metallica, I wasn’t sure about buying V-bucks to unlock the Premium Reward Track of the Festival Pass. Since it’s my birthday month, I decided to splurge anyway and purchased 2800 V-bucks for 22,99 EUR. I unlocked the Premium Reward Track for 1800 V-bucks and used my remaining in-game currency to fast track unlocking rewards of the Festival Pass. If you play regulary I don’t think it’s necessary to use V-bucks to fast track, but I do think it’s nice that it’s possible if you want to.

I still had to play a bit to unlock the James Hetfield Outfit. By doing additional quests I was also able to unlock James’ Snakebyte guitar. I’m currently still working on unlocking Robert’s bass guitar. The reward track for the bass guitar is time gated and because there weren’t any additional quests left, it was not possible to progress and unlock the bass gitar on Day 2 of the festival. I don’t think that’s a bad thing, but I did notice some people got confused seeing the track didn’t progress.

I gathered the bulk of my Festival Points playing Main Stage solo and with other gamers. I mainly stuck to Easy mode, because I’m such a noob. I felt Medium fitted the songs better, but the difficulty was a huge step up for me personally. While trying to hit all the right buttons in Main Stage, I really tuned in more and by doing so it reminded me why I love Metallica songs so much. How the songs are structured, the tempo changes, the composition… such a huuuuge contrast with some other songs available in the Music Library. I know, I’m a fangirl… but there’s simply no denying that fact! ๐Ÿค˜

Metallica Jam Tracks in Fortnite

At first I thought about getting other Metallica stuff in Fortnite, but I noticed those V-Bucks add up fast when doing so. Because I definitely enjoy Main Stage, I looked into buying Metallica Jam Tracks. Currently there are 10 Metallica songs available for 500 V-Bucks each. If I were to buy all of them, I would need 5000 V-Bucks which I can buy for 36,99 EUR. I’m sure that’s because of all the licensing and all, but I do think the pricing is a bit steep. I’m all for supporting the artist, so instead of spending real money on V-Bucks to buy Jam Tracks, I’ve decided to save up and hunt down some cool physical editions of Metallica albums instead.

Fuel. Fire. Fury.

The one thing I was most looking forward to was Fuel. Fire Fury. which could only be experienced last weekend during six time limited events. Even though the experience was really nicely made by technology studio Magnopus, the whole experience wrapped up under 10 minutes. Songs were cut short and players definitely didn’t get enough time to enjoy all the different gameplay environments. Don’t even get me started about the concert portions of the experience.

Even though Fuel. Fire. Fury. was a bit of a disappointment, I still enjoyed the Metallica x Fortnite collaboration. Fortnite Festival Season Four will wrap up on August 16, 2024, at 12 AM ET. That means you still have enough time to check it out!
