The dust has settled and I’ve had some time to let it all sink in. Is there a better time to share my thoughts on Summer Game Fest 2024? I think not. So, let’s go! I watched the live show on Friday, tuned into the Future’s Summer Showcase on Saturday, very much enjoyed the Xbox Showcase on Sunday, and wrapped up SGF24 on Monday with Ubisoft Forward.

Because it was announced beforehand there wouldn’t be any big reveals or surprises during the live show on Friday, I hesitated about watching the show live. Unfortunately my curiousity got the best of me. I had already lowered my expectations, but I still felt the show was underwhelming. I felt the show had low energy and the lackluster trailers definitely messed up the pacing. With just a bit more presentation or captivating presenters, I believe the show could have been way better.

The only time I sat up in my seat was when Sam Lake, Creative Director of Remedy took the stage to introduce the Alan Wake II Physical Deluxe and Collector’s Edition coming Fall 2024. He also introduced Night Springs – 3 episodes expanding on Alan Wake II, coming June 8th, 2024. I haven’t even played Alan Wake II yet, but Sam definitely pulled me into it. No, it’s not because of the cool way he took the stage. I swear!

Another nice surprise was the release date trailer of The First Descendant. Even though it’s a CGI trailer, it really got me excited for the game. The trailer is visually stunning and hearing M83 / Outro just makes it.. *chef’s kiss* It’s been ages since I played a looter shooter, but I definitely plan on checking the game out when it drops on July 2nd.

I had a much better time watching Britt Baron (Tifa Lockhart in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth) and Roger Clark (Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2) co-hosting the Future Game Show Summer Showcase. It’s always more difficult when there are two presenters interacting with each other while doing a show, but I think Britt and Roger did a pretty good job.

A lot of interesting titles were announced during the show, but I really loved Dystopika, Nobody Wants To Die and The Casting of Frank Stone. Also, the Unreal Engine 5 Showcase was simply breathtaking!

The Xbox Showcase was filled to the brim with epicness. It just didn’t disappoint. There were sooooooo many awesome trailers shown during the showcase. I tuned in to catch the reveal trailer of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. I need a whole separate blogpost to share my thougths on that one. I loved seeing Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Perfect Dark, Fable, Mixtape and Life is Strange: Double Exposure. That Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred trailer was so damn chilling *gulp*

I greatly enjoyed the Official Showcase Reveal of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. I’m truly happy to see the game really gives the same feel as the movies. Gotta love the fact we can play this and a bunch of other great titles Day One with Game Pass ๐Ÿ’š

I wrapped up my Summer Game Fest 2024 experience with Ubisoft Forward. Maybe I’m old fashioned or maybe I’m still a bit corporate, but I really enjoyed the streamlined show. I love how they included the live performances of The Hollywood Chamber Orchestra and the Taiko Project before showcasing Star Wars Outlaws and diving deeper into Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Both performances set the mood perfectly.

Even though Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Star Wars Outlaws were featured during the previous showcases, I loved going more in-depth with the developers. It really got me excited about both games and I almost got tempted to prepurchase them. Because Ubisoft does get crazy when it comes to sales, I’m gonna stick to waiting for a very sweet deal.

I honestly thought my gaming year already peaked in March, when I played Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Dragon’s Dogma 2. I’m glad to see there are still a whole bunch of awesome games coming out this year. It also makes me a little anxious, because.. where will I be able to find the time to play all these games? Haha, I seriously need to make a proper schedule!

While I’m figuring out which titles I’m going to play when and on what platform, I can already promise you: I’ll be back here at NERDSHOCK HQ to dive deeper into the games I’m definitely picking up and share my thoughts on all the games I am able to playโšก
