In my previous post I introduced Basil The Wanderer, the hero who will embark on a Journey Through Tyria. After completing character creation in Guild Wars 2, we enter the village of Shaemoor. During this tutorial mission we slowly get used to the basics of the game.

The village of Shaemoor is under attack and Captain Thackeray is in dire need of help. It might seem as if the world is crashing down around the poor villagers and you might feel a certain sense of urgency to rush through the tutorial mission. No worries, feel free to take the time to get used to moving around your character and the camera.

If you would like to make adjustments you can do so by checking Game Menu (cogwheel icon in the top left corner) > Options or directly by pressing F11. I personally only focus on the W,A,S,D keybindingsand camera options during the tutorial mission, but you can of course make further adjustments if necessary.

Shortcut to the garrison during Defending Shaemoor tutorial

Still a bit in a hurry? You can take a little short cut to the garrison and skip the part where you need to defend the gate. If there aren’t many other players around you still need to take care of the centaurs, but if you’re lucky you can go straight to fighting the big boss. I don’t recommend doing this if you’ve just started playing, but it definitely is a time saver when you’re on your second (human) character or if you’ve rerolled.

After completing the tutorial, we can now explore Shaemoor further. Our main focus is to reach level 11 so we can enter Divinity’s Reach and start the next story chapter. As we explore Shaemoor and level up, we collect a lotta stuff and need to start to manage our inventory (12:18). After reaching LVL 11 we take a look at our gear (1:12:00) and hero points, so we can equip our first slot skill (1:23:00).

Coming Up

Until the end of October 2024 I will be playing the main story of the original Guild Wars 2 release. I will share my adventures via the Journey Through Tyria blogpost series including dedicated videos on YouTube. You can find an overview of the series and some additional information about the game in the special section here at NERDSHOCK HQ.
